3-2-10 ...... TUESDAY ...... We're opening in just 10 more days! .......

It's really hard to believe that this long COLD, WET WINTER is almost gone! ........... The STAFF is in the process of getting everything running for our 50th ANNIVERSARY year! ............. We haven't seen many fish so far this winter on the pier, but that just means there is more for our fishermen in the SPRING! ............... We have lost BOTH of the BUOY MARKERS on each side of the pier now; it seems that there might be a TROUGH washed along the beach in the line of the buoys! ............. Hopefully, this will help the Bottom Fishing; it's always great to have a channel for the fish to run! ............. The water temperature is a cool 45* right now; fishing probably won't be wide open for a while yet; I like to shoot for April 1st as the real opener for the season. ................ The Emerald Isle St. Patrick's Day Festival will be March 13th this year, and we open the pier on Friday just to be there for the folks who are ready to get out and walk, or even wet a hook (you never know when that BLUE or BLOW might show up!) .............. So just relax, and enjoy exploring our new website for the next week or so; we have been working diligently on it for a while now! ...............  I would like to again thank CHRIS HILL [ www.grasscats.com ] and my son, KEVIN STANLEY for all of their tireless work on the development of the new site; it is a work in progress, and will continue to evolve with new ideas and interesting information for many years to come! ............... I would like to ask everyone out there that may have any old pictures of friends and family from the early years of EMERALD ISLE and BIP to send them to us, and we will share them for all to see! ............... It is a shame that I can't seem to find enough older pictures; there are a lot of wonderful memories of literally thousands of friends that have either passed away, or have moved on to better places (although I don't know where that would be!) ............. We will be opening on FRIDAY, March 12th, so plan on coming down for the big day! ............... I can only hope that ALL of the snow and bad weather will be gone by then, although this has been a strange winter! ................ SEE YOU SOON! ............... MIKE STANLEY

1-1-10 ...... FRIDAY ...... HAPPY NEW YEAR! ......

It's been a WET SEASON so far, and SPRING is on the way! .......... The water temperature is hovering around 50* now, but we will see colder temps for the next two months (not to mention SNOW---how about that weather pattern?!) ......... Oh, well, I guess frigid cold might kill off some of those pesky mosquitoes! ......... Fishing has been slower with a few SPECKLED TROUT and a DRUM or two, but we really need some COLD water to bring the SPECKS on the beach! ......... We are preparing for the 50th ANNIVERSARY WEBSITE, and there will be some nice changes in store for 2010! ............ CHRIS HILL from Kinston, NC is helping to organize our next format; my son KEVIN and I will be pulling out the stops to get as much up-to-date information to you as possible! ......... Also, DR. BOGUS [ www.ncoif.com ] is on board with some nice information regarding the TYPES of FISH that we catch and will include BAIT, RIG, and FISHING CONDITIONS for each species to help make your trip the most productive! ......... So hang in there, and we will update as soon as things progress! ........ The pier will re-open on FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 2010 ......... ENJOY the WINTER MONTHS! ......... SEE YOU SOON(er than you think)! ............ MIKE STANLEY

12-7-09 ...... MONDAY ...... The SEASON is OVER, but the fishing continues ......

It was really strange closing the pier this season; the fish are still biting! ........ I have heard reports from season pass holders that SEA MULLET and BLOWFISH are still doing great! ......... DR. BOGUS [ www.ncoif.com ] told me the other day that the warm water (61*) is making the  SPECKLED TROUT  season much shorter! ........ We have seen some SPECKS on the pier since closing day, but they were 12" or less (so far) ........ 2009 was quite a year; we had a great turnout, considering tough times for everyone. ........ Fishing was much improved this past season; SEA MULLET, PUPPY DRUM, and BLACK DRUM were the big stories, although KING MACKEREL, BLUEFISH, and SPANISH MACKEREL were plentiful! ........ SPOTS? ....... OK, but not in huge numbers (we had some GREAT SPOT days, but less than expected.) ........ I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our STAFF for another wonderful season; special thanks to Pier Manager, PATTY DAVIS ....... Assistant Manager, RHONDA WAGONER ......... and RV Park Manager, GAIL COLE for their excellent job! ......... I guess their job is a bit easier since everyone under them is probably the best crew in Carteret County! ........ Thanks to our STAFF on the end of the pier; BILL LUDWIG, FRANK LUCARELLI, and DANNY GLOVER (the main honchos), and the others that have given so much of their time and energy trying to keep peace on the end (they do a great job!) ........... Special thanks to LEE BASS; I'm not sure what our counter staff would do without him!  ......... So on with another winter; and oh, what a SHORT ONE it will be! ......... 2010 BIP SEASON PASSES are still available by mail.  Please send the following information: Name of Passholder, Address (include zip code), Age, Phone #, and a check or money order (Bottom $200.00 or King Fishing $250.00) to BOGUE INLET PIER, P.O. Box 1984, Swansboro, NC  28584 .......... We will send you the pass (and free gate key) by mail ASAP. There is plenty of time to get one for a Christmas Present; please enclose the return address if different from the Passholder! .......... We'll be doing some spruce-up around here and getting ready for the 2010 season, which happens to be our  50th ANNIVERSARY!  .......... So here's to you and your family; thank you for enjoying our wonderful corner of the world, and if all goes right, we'll re-open on FRIDAY, MARCH 12th in time for the St. Patrick's Day Festival! ........ And as always; SEE YOU SOON! ............ MIKE STANLEY ............
